So, I've got a mohawk again. It's fun. You can see funny photos of alan's mohawk, and trust me, they are funny.

I'm sure other stuff has been happening. We've had some great visits to Louisville and gotten to spend time with family and friends. It's been great (a vacation for me is to know people around me). All that has been overshadowed by yesterdays event in my brain (and leg)... at least for today.

Location within the Park of Roses

So, Marea, Anita and I were walking in The Park of Roses on our way back to the car (to go to dinner), traveling on the path and it's divided into the right side for pedestrians and the left side for bikes (etc.). I was the furthest left, and basically in the middle or on the left side of the path (it's not wide enough for 3 people to walk side by side and only take up half). It's drizzely day and so the park is not as highly used as it might be, but by no means deserted (it's perhaps the most popular park in columbus).

We hear someone call "on your left".

I was already on the left hand side, so i instantly jump into the grass off the path, on the left hand side... or at least, that's what I tried to do. Marea says that after the guy called out "on your left" she haddn't even had time to turn around to look before it happened. The first biker hit my left thigh (as i was jumping to the left) with the front tire of his street bike. He flew into me, and the over me. I ended up on the ground and didn't know the the second biker hit the two of us and flew over us, and landed head first a few feet ahead. My left sandal ended up 12 feet ahead of me. The second biker was wearing a helment (thankfully) and suffered some shoulder injury but seemed otherwise ok (worst case it was broken). His helmet was broken. The first biker wasn't wearing a helmet, but luckily, I absorbed a lot of his energy. He had a knot on his head instantly and many scrapes and injuries on knees, fingers, elbows, etc... He had a pretty decent concussion and shows signs of being nausious and in mild shock. Biker number 2 had his cell phone on him and called 911, a firetruck and then ambulance came and took both bikers to the hospital. (the reponse time was incredably good). The bikers said they were going too fast, and that's the truth, to be sure.

I was pretty much fine. It took me a little while to get up and realize what had happened and that i was ok (and that the guy on the ground was still alive). My left thigh (outside, basically almost my hip) is very seriously bruised. It doesn't look bruised, but then i don't visibly bruise very easily. It sure feels bruised. All in all, it could have gone a lot worse for everyone. I'm glad it didn't hit either of the girls or nova, since my body mass is probably what kept me mostly unaffected. I'm also glad it didn't hit me anywhere else. I'm glad one of the bikers was wearing a helmet, that they had cell phones, that EMS was so quick, and that the first biker didn't miss running into me (if he had all of his inertia, he would have spilled some brains).

So, we were late for dinner and a little shaken... After dinner i drove marea to cinci and saw Derek Carter (one of her most favorite house DJs). So, life continues but it's still an interesting event. We'll no longer be walking on the paths at the park, and never will ride bikes without a helmet.
