The following is a suggestion of events. Obviously this is just a guide and people can (and will) do whatever works for them... just so long as we can do things together (at least in groups).
Also see a more in depth overview of activities if you don't want to click on links to find out more...
Arrive Pinewood Cabins, Mountain View, AK, between 2 pm (check in time) and 5 pm.
Settle in, snacks, groceries.
Winn family group will host dinner at the larger pavilion at Pinewood Cabins. This would be a good time to light a candle and say a few words to acknowledge/celebrate those we miss.
9 pm walk (or drive) to the square for down home evening concerts, a'pickin' and a'singin'(bring a chair). Yak yak yak.
Blanchard Springs Caverns and grounds. This is about 30 min. drive from Pinewood Cabins.
The Williams family group will host lunch for everyone, at the pavilion in the park. Tentative menu: chicken, beef and veggie wraps. YUM!!
Activities include cave tours, plus swim/float/fish (with AK fishing license) in ice cold river, explore and hike.
Someone should also make reservations today($$) with Wild Bill Outfitters for the float trip on Saturday AM.
Friday may also be the best afternoon to go to the Folk Crafts Center [1] (closes at 5), and for the Ozark Music Show in the Auditorium, especially if you are doing a combination ticket.
We recommend dinner out --You might want to try Tommy's Famous purple diner (pre-order calzones, pizza or BBQ plate to insure getting to the Auditorium by 7). Other places for sea food to burgers - check out Mountain View area eateries, below in food section.
Early drive about 40 min. to Buffalo Point Campground, which is our take out point. Wild Bill sends his bus to take us to the put-in point where they give us life vests for each, paddles and a canoe or kayak (depending upon what you ordered. We chose the Buffalo because it's warm & shallow in June. float trip on the Buffalo National River with lunch on the river or at Buffalo Point pavilion (we have not reserved this, but there are many picnic tables).
More hiking trails and Ranger Station with movie on the history of the Buffalo River.
The Pennington family group will host a BBQ dinner back at Pinewood Cabins Pavilion.
Check out at Pinewood Cabins is at 11 am. (The Folk Crafts Center is unfortunately closed.)
The Pennington family group will create an early brunch including everyone's left overs, as everyone plans for next reunion in '09.
